Curtis Named the SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Mercer freshman Chandler Curtis earned his third-straight weekly honor from the Southern Conference, after being named the SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the team’s 21-18 loss to Samford.

Curtis had another standout performance, helping jumpstart a late rally by the Bears with a 99-yard punt return for a touchdown in the closing minute. He finished with a career-high 232 all-purpose yards, tallying 134 yards on returns and 78 yards receiving.

The Calhoun, Ga. native has established himself as one of the most explosive return men in the country with a FCS-leading three return touchdowns on the year. He also tops the SoCon and ranks eighth nationally with an average of 30.6 yards per kick return.

The Southern Conference weekly honor is the fourth-straight the Bears, as Alex Lakes started the string with Freshman of the Week accolades for his performance in a 49-0 defeat of Stetson.

Mercer returns home this Saturday, October 11, after a two-game road swing, as it hosts Austin Peay for a 4 p.m. kick-off at Mercer University Stadium.
