Curtis Named CFPA National Punt Returner of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Mercer University freshman Chandler Curtis earned his second-straight College Football Performance Awards National Punt Returner of the Week, after his performance in the Bears’ 49-21 victory over Austin Peay last Saturday.

Curtis, who has garnered the honor three times this season, helped push Mercer out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter with a 61-yard punt return touchdown, his FCS-leading third of the year. The freshman wide receiver finished the game with 108 all-purpose yards, including 47 yards receiving.

The Calhoun, Ga. native tops the Southern Conference and the FCS with four total return touchdowns this season, while also leading the nation in punt return average (28.8 yards per return). The Jerry Rice Award Watch List performer ranks eighth in the FCS in kick return average as well, posting 30.6 yards per return.

Mercer will be action this Saturday, October 18, when it hosts Western Carolina during its annual Blackout game at Mercer University Stadium. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
