Atlanta has canceled its New Year’s Eve Peach Drop as officials panic over the number of COVID-19 cases and specifically the Omicron variant of the virus.
A task force has recommended the city demolish or otherwise rid itself of a former sharecropper’s that served as an “Old South” themed restaurant during the 20th century.
At issue is a $6.5 million project to redevelop the town green, home to the local community center and library. City officials say it is the “biggest change to our downtown since the 1990s.”
It’s not entirely clear why a pandemic might lead to more bad driving, but some days, taking to the roads seems to be more dangerous than attending a super spreader event without a mask.
