There is something inherently hopeful about the largest city on New Zealand’s South Island. The city today is a vibrant community, full of interesting attractions.

Pulling into Wellington on The Northern Explorer train from Auckland, it is readily apparent Wellington — New Zealand’s capital city — is a destination worth exploring.
For many, the tiny South Island town of Picton is nothing more than the endpoint of the ferry, but be sure to take a moment to enjoy the town’s offerings before simply passing through on any Kiwi escapade.
