Former Fulton County Superior Court judge to address BBA

ATLANTA — Former Fulton County Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford will speak to the Buckhead Business Association (BBA) during the organization’s April 13 breakfast meeting.

Bedford served as a Superior Court judge from 1996 until the end of last year. He did not seek re-election in 2016, and Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal on Jan. 2 appointed Bedford as the senior judge of the Superior Courts of Georgia.

During his tenure on the bench, Bedford has been involved in several high-profile cases.

In 2006, Bedford ruled the Voter ID Act that then-Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law violated the state constitution. That law required voters show a government-issued photo identification before casting a ballot.

Last year, Bedford ordered Nick Gordon, the partner of Bobbi Kristina Brown, pay more than $36.2 million in damages as part of a wrongful death lawsuit.

In the wake of Brian Nichols’ 2005 courthouse rampage, Bedford presided over the Fulton County Courthouse Security Committee. The group issued a report detailing recommended courthouse security changes.

Bedford received his JD from Emory University School of Law in 1973. Before his election to the bench, Bedford handled criminal, domestic, personal injury and general civil cases.

The BBA will meet at 7:30 a.m. on April 13 at the City Club of Buckhead.

The BBA holds breakfast meetings at 7:30 a.m. most Thursday mornings at the City Club of Buckhead. Meetings feature business, political or civic leaders as a speaker, and topics usually include leading issues within the Buckhead community and Atlanta as a whole. Tickets for members are $10 in advance and $12 at the door; non-member tickets are $20.
