Spirit Airlines said it began an “orderly wind-down” of its operations on May 2, canceling all flights effective immediately and ending customer service.

In a notice posted on its website, the carrier said it was “with great disappointment” that it was winding down after 34 years, citing the impact of its ultra-low-cost model on the airline industry. The company said it had hoped to continue serving customers for years to come.

Spirit said its website would serve as an information hub for the wind-down process. The airline directed customers with questions to contact its claims agent, Epiq, by email or phone.

The notice did not provide additional details on next steps for passengers with disrupted travel, refunds, or how claims will be handled, beyond pointing customers to Epiq and the wind-down site.
