State patrol receives H.E.A.T. Grant

ATLANTA — The Georgia State Patrol has been awarded a traffic safety H.E.A.T. grant of almost $1.8 million from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The grant provides funding for GSP to continue the Nighthawks DUI Task Force as well as the department’s Administrative License Suspension (ALS) Program, according to state officials. ATLANTA — Georgia state troopers are cracking down on drunken drivers statewide as part of a month-long campaign. “Troopers will be keeping a close watch for suspected impaired drivers on every patrol,” Bill Hitchens, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, said in a news release. “Impaired driving is a danger 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.” As part of “Drunk and Drugged Driver Awareness Month,” troopers will be conducting road checks statewide

Atlanta airport power outage leads to delays, cancellations

A power outage in Concourse B of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday led to a number of canceled and delayed flights, according to published reports. The outage, which was reported by about 5 a.m. Monday, was resolved by about noon. According to a report on CNN’s website, Delta Air Lines cancelled about two dozen flights Monday morning. The power outage only impacted 18 of the airport’s 199 gates, The Associated Press reported. In addition
