Shorter defeats Mars Hill 27-20 to remain undefeated

Sparked by a defense that picked off a record five passes — a record three by junior safety Jordan Shaw including a record-tying 100-yard interception returned for a touchdown — and an offense that went airborne for three first half touchdown passes, the Hawks won their second straight game of the season in as many outings Saturday afternoon when they handed the homestanding Mars Hill Lions a 27-13 non-conference defeat.

Putting the Peach back in the Bowl

The bowl once know as the Peach Bowl before it was the Chick-fil-A Bowl once again has Peach in its name. The change, announced earlier this month, was necessary since the the use of a traditional moniker is required for the six top-tier bowls hosting the new football playoffs.

Georgia State on Saturday concluded its spring practice schedule with a final scrimmage during the school’s All Blue All In Day. The Panthers are looking to rebound in 2014 after a disappointing 0-12 season last year, their first in the Sun Belt Conference.
