Birmingham-Southern College scored the game’s first two touchdowns and held off a late Berry College rally as the Panthers prevailed, 23-17, on Saturday.
Dale Jackson threw for five touchdowns Saturday to lead a clearly energized Berry team operating on all cylinders to a 46-24 victory over fellow second-year football program Hendrix. With the win, the Vikings are 2-4 on the year; the Warriors fell to 4-2.
An energized Berry College offense posted a record afternoon to lead a Vikings team that operated on all cylinders and cruised to a dominating win over Hendrix College, a fellow second-year program.
Berry’s 29-23 win, the first real win in school history, came on the school’s 100th Mountain Day and sent the Berry faithful into a frenzy. Students stormed the Barron Stadium field and a post-game fireworks show was a fitting end to a magical night.
What a difference a year makes. A year ago, the Vikings, a team of mostly freshmen, struggled to post a complete game. While their record doesn’t reflect the improvement, the change is palpable.
