Jon Burns nominated to serve second term as the 75th Speaker of the House

The Georgia House Republican Caucus elected its leadership team for the 2025-2026 legislative term.

During the Tuesday meeting, House Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, was nominated by the caucus to serve a second term as the 75th Speaker of the House of Representatives. House Speaker Pro Tempore Jan Jones, R-Milton, was also nominated to serve another term in her role.

“It has been an immense honor and privilege to serve as Georgia’s 75th Speaker of the House, and I am deeply grateful for the unwavering trust and support of my colleagues and friends,” Burns said in a statement.

“As we reflect on all that we’ve achieved together, I’m more confident than ever that our caucus will continue to deliver meaningful results—whether it’s passing historic tax cuts, investing in education, expanding access to healthcare or making our communities safer,” Burns added. “I look forward to the continued work ahead as we strive to grow and strengthen our Republican majority.”

The Majority Caucus also elected:

  • State Rep. Chuck Efstration, R-Mulberry, as House majority leader
  • State Rep. James Burchett, R-Waycross, as House majority whip
  • State Rep. Bruce Williamson, R-Monroe, as House majority caucus chairman
  • State Rep. Houston Gaines, R-Athens, as House majority caucus vice-chairman
  • State Rep. Ginny Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, as House majority caucus secretary and treasurer

“We’ve delivered successful conservative legislation for Georgia families over the last legislative term, and I have no doubt that under the guidance of Speaker Burns and our entire leadership team, we will continue championing policies to further enhance public safety, healthcare and support for Georgians,” Burchett said in a statement. “As Majority Whip and with the assistance of our entire whip team, we will continue to guarantee that our members are supported and that they are able to move our state forward with principled conservative legislation.”
