The special exhibit, featuring materials from both the Civil War and the Railway Mail Service after the war, opens Oct. 11, 2017.
Items on loan from the NPM include Owney tags, Railway Mail Service (RMS) badges, a railway mail sack, a railway mail-on-the-fly pouch and four Civil War envelopes (also known as “covers”).
Sightseers’ Delight started publishing in June 2016. The site, published by The DeFeo Groupe, collects and curates content about places where historical events large and small happened. The site builds off the legacy of The Travel Trolley, which launched in June 2009. The site aimed to be a virtual version of the trolley tours offered in so many cities.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans and supporters last month agreed to financially support the Georgia park that commemorates the site where Jefferson Davis was captured at the end of the Civil War. Officials previously said they might have to close the park because of the funding shortfall.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed an executive order to suspend the state’s excise tax on motor fuel sales through mid-August. The order, signed Friday morning, also suspends the collection of the state sales tax on locomotive fuel.
