Atlanta exploring WrestleMania, Army-Navy bids

ATLANTA — Atlanta sports officials are considering whether to submit a bid to host an upcoming WrestleMania and possibly even the esteemed Army-Navy Game, the head of the Atlanta Sports Council told the Buckhead Business Association (BBA) today.

At the BBA’s breakfast meeting, time frameDan Corso, executive director of the Atlanta Sports Council, shared five potential events for which the Atlanta Sports Council is considering a bid. However, just because the group is considering a bid doesn’t mean the organization will submit a bit.

Atlanta was recently selected to host the Super Bowl LIII in 2019; the city previously hosted Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994 and Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. The city will also play host to the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2020, Corso said.

The council is exploring WrestleMania for the 2019 to 2021 range. It is exploring the Army-Navy Game for the 201timeframe.

Should the Atlanta Sports Council bid on and win WrestleMania and the Army-Navy game, both events would be held at the new $1.4 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium, set to be the home of the Atlanta Falcons starting in 2017. Atlanta hosted WrestleMania XXVII in 2011.
