ATLANTA — The Buckhead Business Association (BBA) recently honored a local businessman with a prestigious service award.
During its Signature Luncheon on June 23, the business organization honored Mark Shaver, owner of Buckhead Paws, with the Karl A. Bevins Service Award. New Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn gave the keynote address.
“I was blown away to learn I was getting this award,” BuckheadView quoted Shaver as saying. “Although I don’t think Bevins knew my name, I knew and admired him. Bevins’ consistency and commitment to the make the organization better still inspires. He was a symbol of that.”
The award is given annually to a BBA member who is active in the community and who shows dedication to the BBA through regular participation in organization events, committees and projects. The award is named in honor of a long-time BBA member and the city of Atlanta’s first traffic engineer; Bevins passed away in 2011 at the age of 96 after a lifetime of community service.
“Shaver has a warm involving nature. He has been truly a part of the fabric of this organization for the last decade. He has been involved in every committee I can think of,” the Northside Neighbor quoted Brian McGuire, the association’s 2014 president who gave Shaver the honor, as saying.
Also at the luncheon, the BBA honored several local law enforcement officers. Fulton County Sheriff’s Sgt. Corey Henry, Atlanta Firefighter Eric Cook and Atlanta police officers James White and J. Nunez were honored with Public Safety Awards.
The BBA’s next major event is the Taste of Buckhead. That even is scheduled for Sept. 24 at the Buckhead Theatre.
