From Atlanta’s crowded thoroughfares, it might seem hard to believe there is a place just a short drive away that is steeped in history, offers endless scenic views and is home to a wine scene that is starting to turn heads. But the North Georgia Mountains offer the perfect break from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta.

Amid the Cold War, the country established a series of 54 Titan II intercontinental ballistic missile silos. One of the missiles, formerly site No. 571-7, is preserved as the Titan Missile Museum.

One of the best ways to explore the greater Atlanta area is to leave the city and head to a suburb, and Marietta is as good of a place as any to start.
