A new report from the personal finance website WalletHub has found the best cities for a staycation.

The site’s 2025 Best and Worst Cities for Staycations study evaluated more than 180 U.S. cities using 41 key indicators that should lead to an enjoyable yet affordable staycation. The metrics included the number of parks and recreational facilities, as well as the average cost of dining out and local entertainment options.

Cincinnati, Ohio, claimed the top spot as the best city for a staycation. Orlando, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Chicago rounded out the top five.

Conversely, Yonkers, New York, was ranked the worst city for a staycation, edging out Fremont, California, and Pearl City, Hawaii.

The report found New York City boasts the highest number of parks relative to its population, offering 26.5 times more green spaces than Miami, which ranked lowest in that category. Honolulu leads in tennis court availability, with nearly 19 times more courts than Mesa, Arizona.

Meanwhile, Orlando is a haven for frozen treat lovers, with more than 25 times as many ice cream and frozen yogurt shops as Lewiston, Maine.

Affordability also played a key role in the rankings. Amarillo, Texas, was noted for having the lowest cost of house-cleaning services, which are 3.4 times cheaper than those in Juneau, Alaska, the most expensive city for such services.
