The Georgia House of Representatives has advanced a measure to establish the Savannah Music Commission to promote Savannah’s music scene and benefit the local entertainment and music industry.

House Bill 762 would create a commission to focus on the needs of the Hostess City of the South’s music industry.

The commission would promote musical events, support musicians and foster new opportunities for collaboration among artists, venues and the broader community. It would also create programs highlighting Savannah’s rich musical heritage while attracting new talent and events to the city.

“This is a monumental step forward for Savannah and the entire music community,” state Rep. Carl Gilliard, D-Savannah, said in a release. “The establishment of the Savannah Music Commission will not only elevate local artists and musicians but also enhance Savannah’s reputation as a vibrant cultural hub, driving tourism and economic growth in our region.”

The bill awaits consideration in the Senate.
