Incumbent Cobb County Commissioner Monique Sheffield will face off against Republican Matthew Hardwick in the April special general election for the District 4 seat following last week’s primary.
According to Cobb County Board of Elections vote tallies, both candidates cleared the 50% plus one needed for a clean electoral victory.
Sheffield secured the Democratic nomination with 2,927 votes, or 72%, defeating Yashica Marshall, who received 1,132 votes. On the Republican side, Hardwick won with 463 votes, or 70%, knocking off Julien Grhas, who garnered 192 votes.
In District 2, a Democratic runoff is scheduled for March 11 between former state Rep. Erick Allen, D-Smyrna, and perpetual candidate Jaha V. Howard. Allen received 1,669 votes, while Howard picked up 1,568; a third candidate, Tracy Stevenson, received 432 votes.
The Republican candidate for District 2, Alicia Adams, ran unopposed. There is no incumbent in District 2 after Cobb County officials relented that the maps they drew were not lawful, forcing Democrat Jerica Richardson to vacate the seat.
The special general election for both districts will take place on April 29.
