Could next presidential library land on Staten Island?

Could Donald Trump settle on Staten Island for his presidential library?

If some State Island leaders have their say, it just might.

Staten Island is home to several colleges, such as Wagner College, that could host a presidential library. Trump was born in Queens, is often associated with projects in Manhattan and owns resorts in New Jersey, Florida and elsewhere.

“Whether liberals like it or not, his records will be held in a presidential library, so it seems obvious that Staten Island — since we voted so handily for him — should be happy about having a world class institution in our midst,” the Staten Island Advance quoted Councilman Joseph Borelli, R-South Shore, as saying.

Presidents generally elect to build a presidential library in their hometowns. Richard Nixon chose Yorba Linda, Calif., for his library, while George W. Bush elected for Dallas.

“We’re all New Yorkers, here together, we are all Americans doing what’s good for the country. Staten Island is a good place,” The New York Post quoted one resident as saying about the prospect of a Trump library on the island. “We have more space than Manhattan or Brooklyn or Queens [and] more locations to sustain a presidential library.”

Regardless, no matter where Trump builds the library, at least one protest is likely to ensue.
