ATLANTA — A Delta Air Lines flight to Japan’s Tokyo-Narita International Airport will be the first flight to depart from the new Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal when it officially opens for business tomorrow afternoon at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Moments after flight 295 departs for Tokyo, Delta flight 177 from Dublin, Ireland, is scheduled to be the first arrival at the new terminal.
“The new international terminal is Atlanta’s new front door to the world,” Richard Anderson, Delta’s chief executive officer, said in a news release.
Announced more than a decade ago, the 1.2 million-square-foot Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal, also known as Concourse F, features 12 gates and has separate levels for arrivals and departures. The new terminal, which passengers can access from Interstate 75, also has eight security checkpoint lanes for passengers departing on international flights and a new facility for Customs and Border Protection agents.
“Delta’s contribution to the new terminal and concourse is part of a more than $3 billion investment in facilities, products and technology in the air and on the ground,” Anderson said. “In addition to this premier international gateway in Atlanta, renovations and expansions to Delta airport facilities also are underway in New York, Seattle, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.”
The new terminal, built at a cost of more than $1.4 billion, also includes 80 ticketing counters and 64 self-service check-in kiosks. Shuttle buses will connect the new terminal with the airport’s domestic terminal, domestic parking and MARTA.
In New York, Delta is increasing its presence at New York’s LaGuardia airport, adding more than 100 new flights and 29 new cities as part of a $160 million renovation project.
