AAA: Gas prices continue decline

ATLANTA — There is finally some good news for motorists. The price of gas is continuing to decline, even if only slightly.

Nationwide, the price of a gallon of gas stands at $3.863 per gallon, down from $3.907 per gallon a week ago, according to AAA. In Georgia, the price of a gallon of gas dropped 7 cents per gallon — to $3.760 per gallon, down from $3.831 per gallon a week ago, according to AAA.

“Gas prices are finally moving in a positive direction for motorists,” Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, said in a news release. “While it’s very likely retail gas prices will retreat further this week, it doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve seen the peak price for 2012. It’s still very early in the year and we could see gas prices inch back up in May or June depending on how the May 23 meeting between Iran and members of the United Nations turns out and whether or not we have a busy hurricane season.”

In the past week, Florida saw gas prices drop 6 cents per gallon while Tennessee saw prices decrease 5 cents per gallon.
