MARIETTA, Ga. — City workers here have completed a $7,500 restoration of a prominent fountain in the city’s public square.
Last month, the fountain’s manufacturer, Robinson Iron, took the fountain to Alabama to repair its interior and exterior. The repaired fountain returned to Glover Park in downtown Marietta on Wednesday.
“Many weddings are held in Glover Park, and people will likely take pictures in front of the fountain for years to come,” Marietta Parks and Recreation director Rich Buss said in a news release. “Many folks like to spend their free time in Glover Park, enjoying the serenity and listening to the fountain.”
While the fountain was repainted last year, officials said they recognized that it needed a “complete restoration.”
“City staff were preparing the fountain for operation now that the weather has warmed and were cleaning the upper bowl when they noticed the fountain was rusting from the inside out and that one of the bowls had become unstable,” Buss said. “The internal rusting also caused the exterior of the fountain to deteriorate and become discolored.”
