The Journey’s About to Begin…

… Whoever said, “It’s the journey, not the destination,” must not have had a 14-hour flight to look forward to.

Nonetheless, my Japan adventure is about to begin in roughly 36 hours. That means I’ll have the luxury of packing 10 days of clothes into one carry-on and that many days worth of shampoo, toothpaste and whatever other toiletries I’ll need into a quart-sized “zip-top” bag. Oh, the joys of airline travel.

No matter. It’ll be worth it when I awake on Friday at Tokyo’s Narita airport. Who am I kidding? I can’t sleep on the plane. That brings us back to this one key question: Who is looking forward to the journey, not the destination.

There will be good times ahead — good food and fellowship and whatever falls in between. There will be stories to tell, though some stories will no doubt never see the light of day. Really, that’s only the sign of a successful trip.

Dare I say, “Let the journey begin…”
