Rebirth and renewal were celebrated Thursday morning in downtown Clarksville, five years to the day after an F-3 tornado pummeled the city.
At an award ceremony recognizing nine downtown projects, spirits were high.
“Not that we’re celebrating the tornado that tore this town apart five years ago, we’re celebrating the rebirth of our downtown and our city,” Clarksville Mayor Don Trotter said. “Pray there is never another tornado to come through and tear down what you have reconstructed.”
The nine projects ranged from new construction to rehabilitated historic buildings, all in the Central Business Improvement District, which was established after the tornado and is now known as the Downtown District Partnership.
