Democrats win two special elections for Cobb County Commission seats

After last week’s special election, two Cobb County Commission seats will soon be officially filled.

In District 2, voters elected Democrat Erick Allen to fill the seat Jerica Richardson vacated earlier this year. Allen will be sworn in at a public ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre.

In District 4, incumbent Commissioner Monique Sheffield, a Democrat, won reelection and will begin her second term. Sheffield will be sworn in at a private ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 9.

“The Democratic Party of Georgia congratulates Commissioner-Elect Erick Allen and Commissioner Monique Sheffield on their victories in the Cobb County Board of Commissioners special elections,” DPG Interim Chair Matthew Wilson said in a statement last week. “These critical victories show that Georgians are fired up to elect Democrats – at every level of the ticket, even in ‘off years’ – to stand up to the party of Donald Trump and fight for them.”

With the wins, Democrats maintained their 3-2 advantage on the county commission.
