Ohio lawmakers could show some love for the state’s history.
Lawmakers could consider at least two measures that would pay tribute to the state’s history.
Senate Bill 21 would designate the fourth day of October as “Rutherford B. Hayes Day.”
Hayes was the 19th president of the United States, serving from 1877 to 1881. He is best known for ending the Reconstruction era after the contentious election of 1876.
Senate Bill 24 would adopt the 1905 Wright Flyer III, first flown on June 23, 1905, near Dayton, Ohio, as the state airplane. It was the Wright Brothers’ third powered aircraft, built during the winter of 1904–05.
The aircraft is part of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. The restored flyer is the only fixed-wing aircraft designated a National Historic Landmark.
