Illegal alien guilty of murdering nursing student in Athens

An Athens-Clarke County judge has convicted a Venezuelan national who entered the country illegally of murdering a 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student, Laken Riley, on the University of Georgia campus in Athens.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, was living in Athens. According to reports, his brother was also arrested on an unrelated charge.

Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard found Ibarra guilty just minutes after the testimony wrapped.

Haggard is expected to sentence Ibarra this afternoon. Prosecutors want to life in prison for the illegal alien.
