ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council ultimately approved an additional $1.7 million to cover security costs for the soon-to-open Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.
The push failed on its first vote but passed after council members revisited the request, WSB-TV reported.
The station reported that, with the passage, officials can pull the funding without going through the usual council process. Officials previously indicated that the money would come from the Atlanta Police Department’s civil asset forfeitures.
The training center, derisively called “Cop City,” is set to open next month. In June, the Atlanta City Council voted to allocate $30 million in uncommitted funds for the training center.
