Smyrna’s July Sunday Lecture focuses on Chattahoochee River Line

Concord Covered Bridge Historic District Board President Phil Ivester will discuss his research into the Chattahoochee River Line troop movements and battles during the Civil War in the summer of 1864 during a July 14 lecture.

“The Chattahoochee River Line” is the monthly Sunday Lecture sponsored by the Friends of Smyrna Library. The event will start at 3 p.m. in the Smyrna Library Meeting Room.

Ivester, a Smyrna native is CEO of a Kennesaw-based Energy Management firm. While he holds a degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech, he is passionate about Smyrna history, having grown up in the historic Martin Luker Ruff house near the Concord Woolen Mill, Grist Mill, and Covered Bridge. He has done extensive research into the history of 19th-century communities known as Concord, Millgrove, Nickajack, and Tillman.

Ivester is president of the Friends of the Concord Covered Bridge Historic District and treasurer of the Smyrna Historical Society.
