Experts: Booking travel is changing

Travelers’ approach to traveling is changing. Just ask Chris McGuire, founder of Real Estate Exam Ninja, a real estate investor and licensed broker from Alabama with 20 years of experience.

“First things first, forget about those overcrowded tourist traps,” McGuire told Sightseers’ Delight. “This summer, it’s all about exploring unique destinations that aren’t on everyone’s radar. I’m talking hidden ruins in Southeast Asia or off-the-beaten-path hikes in Europe.

“Short and sweet trips are totally in,” McGuire added. “They’re called micro-adventures, and they’re perfect for packing a punch in a short amount of time. Imagine a weekend of thrilling white-water rafting or a bike tour through the picturesque Italian countryside.”

Digital detox destinations are also popular.

“These places have limited Wi-Fi and cell service, forcing us to disconnect and reconnect with nature and ourselves,” McGuire said. “Think about a remote island getaway or a cozy cabin tucked away in a national park.

“It’s all about unplugging and recharging,” McGuire added.

Additionally, McGuire said that for Summer 2024, travelers should expect an increased focus on health and safety measures in the tourism industry.

“As travelers continue to prioritize their well-being, hotels, airlines, and other travel providers will implement enhanced protocols to ensure a safe and hygienic experience,” McGuire said. “This may include rigorous cleaning procedures, contactless check-in/out processes, and improved ventilation systems.

“Travelers can expect more flexible booking policies that allow for easy changes or cancellations in case of unforeseen circumstances,” McGuire added. “The industry’s commitment to health and safety will provide travelers with peace of mind and contribute to a more enjoyable and worry-free vacation experience.”

For Brittany Betts, the way people book their travel is rapidly changing.

“There’s going to be quite the mixed bag this year that I believe will affect how people will book travel for the years to come,” Betts, CMO of FloridaPanhandle.com, told Sightseers’ Delight. “Travel agents are making a comeback, travel knowledge and tips are easily accessible through apps like Instagram and TikTok, and Google is transcending their travel filters and bookable technology all within the past few months really.

Additionally, Betts said people’s search intent is more focused.

“They know what they want. They want deals, and they want information,” Betts said. “Regardless of whether they book via Google or directly through an airline and accommodation site.

“However, Google is completely renovating all things related to search and travel, which is going to change the way people are currently booking and planning their itineraries,” Betts added. “My guess is that people will book their entire itinerary end-to-end mainly from using Google’s new and adaptable technology as the year goes on.”
