Athens, Georgia, mayor submits recommended fiscal 2025 budget

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz has submitted his fiscal 2025 recommended budget to the commission for review.

The budget, which covers the period from July 1 through June 30, 2025, includes a General Fund Operating and Capital Budget that totals $193.6 million for fiscal 2025, which is 3.7% higher than fiscal 2024.

In advance of the beginning of the fiscal year, departments and constitutional officials submit operating and capital budget requests for review by the county manager and the mayor. The mayor submits a recommended budget to the commission by April 30, and the commission can adjust the budget before adopting it in June.

The fiscal 2025 mayor’s recommended budget proposes a 12.45 millage rate for property tax year 2024, unchanged from the current rate. Each mill of this rate produces $1 of taxes for every $1,000 of assessed property value as determined by the Tax Assessor’s Office.
