ATLANTA — The race for Atlanta’s next mayor remains a bit of a toss-up.
According to a new 11 Alive/SurveyUSA poll, Councilwoman Mary Norwood remains atop the crowded field of 12 candidates.
The poll shows 28 percent of respondents support Norwood. City Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms jumped into second place with the support of 15 percent of survey respondents
City Council President Caesar Mitchell remains in third place with support from 10 percent of respondents. A full 14 percent say they are undecided.
If the numbers hold, the top two vote-getters in the Nov. 7 will head to a runoff. To avoid a runoff and win the election outright, a candidate must receive a full majority of the votes cast (usually called 50 percent plus one).
Four candidates — former city COO Peter Aman, former state Sent. Vincent Fort, City Councilman Kwanza Hall and former City Council President Cathy Woolard — show 7 percent of support.
In conducting the survey, SurveyUSA interviewed 950 adults from the city of Atlanta between Sept. 26 and Sept. 30. Of those, 847 were registered to vote, and 549 said they were likely to vote in the November general election.
