ATLANTA — Former President Jimmy Carter attended Bob Dylan’s performance at the venerable Fox Theatre.
The former president and Georgia native sat in the front row of the balcony. He was joined by wife Rosalynn and other family members; at least five Secret Service members also accompanied the former president.
Dylan did not reference Carter during his performance. However, before the show began, what looked to be a member of Dylan’s group delivered a bag of souvenirs, including a show poster and a copy of Tempest, to Carter.
Carter, apparently a long-time Dylan fan, in February presented Dylan with the 2015 MusiCares Person of the Year honor.
Dylan opened Friday’s 19-song show with “Things Have Changed,” then moved into the classic “She Belongs to Me.” Anyone looking for a rundown of Dylan’s greatest hits might have been disappointed as Dylan largely focused on material from the last 20 years of his career.
Throughout his performance, Dylan alternated between a freestanding microphone and a grand piano.
