Ga. senate passes bill to allow museums to manufacture, sample distilled spirits

ATLANTA — The Georgia State Senate has passed a measure that would allow non-profit museums to manufacture and sample distilled spirits.

Senate Bill 240, sponsored by Sen. Hunter Hill, R-Smyrna, passed today by a 43-9 margin.

“I am pleased my colleagues in the Senate approved the passage of Senate Bill 240 today,” Hill said in a statement. “This bill will enable historical sites such as the Smith Family Farm at the Atlanta History Center to operate an antique distillery and enhance the patrons’ experience.”

The Atlanta History Center presented the proposed legislation to Hill to enhance the overall learning experience at one of its museums, the Smith Family Farm, which features a 19th century distillery. The measure heads to the state House of Representatives for consideration.
