Ga. Inmate to be Executed

ATLANTA — Condemned murderer Mark McClain is scheduled for execution by lethal injection at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

McClain was sentenced to death in 1995 for killing a restaurant manager in Richmond County.

Media witnesses for the execution are: Christian Boone, Atlanta Journal Constitution; Adam Folk, Augusta Chronicle; Susanna Capelouto, Georgia Public Broadcasting; Harry Weber, The Associated Press; and Laura Thackston, Monroe County Reporter.

McClain has declined a special last meal and instead will have the regular institutional meal, consisting of chicken and rice, collard greens, carrots, beans, cornbread, iced tea and bread pudding.

There have been 45 men executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1973. If executed, McClain will be the 23nd inmate put to death by lethal injection in Georgia. There are presently 106 men and one female on death row in Georgia.
