ATLANTA, Aug. 4, 2007 — The last vestiges of Buckhead’s rambunctious party district was set to fall to the wrecking ball to make way for an upscale mixed use development.
A portion of Buckhead, a community within Atlanta, will be razed to make way for the so-called “Rodeo Drive of the South,” a development that will include hotels, restaurants and retail shops. The $1.2 billion, 800,000-square-foot “Streets of Buckhead” project is expected to open in the former Buckhead Village area by fall 2009.
“Atlanta has grown up a lot in the last several years and it’s ready for the level of luxury shopping, dining, lodging and living that The Streets of Buckhead will offer,” Butch Ross, executive director and founding principal of Atlanta-based Barry Hotel Partners, said in a news release.
“Streets of Buckhead” is located between Phar, Peachtree and East Paces Ferry roads. When finished, the development will have 1,000 residential units, 300,000 square feet of office space and 500,000 square feet of space for retail shops and restaurants.
