Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) officials recently announced cutbacks that would affect two routes in north Fulton.
The agency’s Route 85 serves Roswell and Alpharetta daily, and Route 87 runs along Roswell Rd. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
MARTA officials said they plan to eliminate 14 weekday routes, 22 limited service weekday routes, 34 Saturday-only routes and 65 Sunday and holiday-only routes throughout the metropolitan area. According to MARTA officials, two statistics came into play when determining what routes to cut: the “highest cost-per-passenger” and the “lowest passenger-per-hour.”
The MARTA north rail line currently terminates with the North Springs station in Sandy Springs, Ga. However, MARTA is evaluating options to bring rail service further into north Fulton within the next 20 years.
MARTA will be holding a series of public meetings to discuss its plans. The first meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, in the city council chambers at Roswell City Hall.
