The world you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood — not a place on a map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine, a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was — and always will be.Michael Eisner, May 1, 1989, at the opening of Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park

Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened on May 1, 1989, offering attractions, Broadway-style shows, and world-class entertainment, immersing guests in the glamour of show business year-round.

The concept of a park inspired by popular movie themes originated with Walt Disney when studio backlot tours were limited to privileged guests. Initially, he considered building a park on his private backlot, but he had to look elsewhere due to land issues and potential traffic problems.

Eventually, he found a suitable location in Anaheim, which led to the creation of Disneyland.

In the mid-1980s, The Walt Disney Company needed more facilities due to an expanded production schedule. Rather than purchasing expensive land in California, the company utilized its Florida property by combining production facilities with theme park attractions. This move allowed Disney guests to experience a behind-the-scenes Hollywood experience.
