Greg “Fingers” Taylor recorded Harpoon Man in early 1984 at Sumet-Bernet Studios in Dallas with Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets. Additional overdubs and mastering were added at Patmos Productions in Jackson, Mississippi.

Bob Sullivan, Greg Taylor and Anson Funderburgh produced the album. The album was released on Fingers Records in 1984. Red Lightnin’ released a version in 1985, and Appaloosa and re-released it in 1995.
