Continental Airlines introduced an option that allows customers to hold reservations and lock-in ticket prices for 72 hours or seven days without a commitment to purchase a ticket. History is a short drive away from Athens

ATHENS, Ga. – There’s a lot of history in Northeast Georgia within a short drive of Athens. About 25 miles from downtown is the Crawford W. Long Museum in the Jackson County city of Jefferson. On March 30, 1842, Long stepped into the history books when he used Ether as a surgical anesthesia. His legacy lives on at the museum that bears his name, which can be visited Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

State patrol receives H.E.A.T. Grant

ATLANTA — The Georgia State Patrol has been awarded a traffic safety H.E.A.T. grant of almost $1.8 million from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The grant provides funding for GSP to continue the Nighthawks DUI Task Force as well as the department’s Administrative License Suspension (ALS) Program, according to state officials. UPDATE: Ga. troopers targeting drunken drivers

ATLANTA — Georgia state troopers are cracking down on drunken drivers statewide as part of a month-long campaign. “Troopers will be keeping a close watch for suspected impaired drivers on every patrol,” Bill Hitchens, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, said in a news release. “Impaired driving is a danger 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.” As part of “Drunk and Drugged Driver Awareness Month,” troopers will be conducting road checks statewide
