Overview
The Central Florida Railroad Museum is a railroad history museum in Winter Garden, Florida, operated by the Central Florida Railway Historical Society. Its exhibits document railroading in Central Florida through photographs, maps, signs, historic artifacts and other materials. The collection includes an extensive display of dining car china and silverware from historic American passenger trains.
The museum occupies the former Tavares & Gulf Railroad depot, which the organization purchased from the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in 1979 and subsequently restored. The museum formally opened on May 21, 1983. Its origins trace to the Central Florida Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, chartered in 1970 with 14 founding members. The chapter separated from the national organization and became the Central Florida Railway Historical Society in 2013. The museum operates through a cooperative agreement involving the historical society, the City of Winter Garden and the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation.
