‘100 Things to Do in Atlanta Before You Die’ returns with new edition

Anyone who lives in metro Atlanta has probably done the same handful of “easy” outings a hundred times — while plenty of the region’s best stuff sits right there, waiting for a free weekend.

While it’s easy to gravitate toward the larger, well-known attractions, the real art of exploring the Gate City is finding the lesser-known sights, whether it’s a market, a local park, or a greasy spoon.

To help, Reedy Press has released the fourth edition of 100 Things to Do in Atlanta Before You Die, an updated bucket-list guide by Atlanta-based writer Kimberly Stroh. The book is aimed as much at locals as at visitors, with 100 ideas ranging from major attractions to smaller, distinctly Atlanta experiences.

The guide mixes food, history, culture, and outdoor picks — from headline stops like the Georgia Aquarium and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights to day-trip staples like Stone Mountain and the Chattahoochee River. Other can’t-miss destinations include Oakland Cemetery, the final resting place of Atlanta’s former residents who helped shape the city into a world-class destination, and Canoe, one of the area’s top eateries, nestled along the banks of the Chattahoochee River.

Stroh’s approach leans toward family-friendly, practical suggestions, with seasonal ideas meant to spark quick weekend plans rather than a single big, complicated itinerary.

“We’re always up for playing tourist in our own city because there’s always something new to explore in Atlanta,” she wrote in the book.

Stroh, who has lived in Atlanta for more than 20 years and is the founder of SavvyMamaLifestyle.com, will mark the new edition with several free public events in Cobb and Cherokee counties. Stroh will give presentations in Woodstock on April 26 and at Marietta’s Reading Attic Bookstore on May 8.

The 160-page paperback is available wherever books are sold.
