Disney has announced a major new addition to Magic Kingdom based on the world of Pixar’s Cars.

The new land, Piston Peak National Park, will be part of the largest expansion in the park’s history and is set to transform the landscape between Liberty Square and Frontierland. Disney announced the land in a post to the Disney Parks blog.

Inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the legacy of America’s national parks, Piston Peak will immerse visitors in a rugged wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped peaks, roaring rivers, and dramatic geysers. The fictional park, first introduced in Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue will now serve as the backdrop for a high-octane off-road rally featuring characters from the Cars universe.

Disney Imagineers are designing the area using “Parkitecture,” a style developed by the National Park Service to ensure that buildings blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings. Guests will be able to explore a visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, scenic trails, and more.

The new land will be situated near Grizzly Hall and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Officials said natural elements such as trees and waterways will create a visual and thematic transition from Liberty Square and Frontierland.

The expansion will also include a new route for the off-road rally, with geysers from Big Thunder Mountain stretching into the new trails.

As construction ramps up this summer, several areas will temporarily close beginning July 7, including the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat.

Work also continues beyond Big Thunder Mountain on another highly anticipated addition: the first-ever land inspired by Disney Villains. The new land will feature two major attractions, themed dining and shopping experiences.

Magic Kingdom guests can also look forward to the return of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad next year with new enhancements, the debut of the Disney Starlight parade on July 20, and the opening of The Beak and Barrel, a pirate-themed experience for all ages.
