Georgia transportation officials award $51.1 million in contracts in March

The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded 11 contracts in March, valued at more than $51.1 million.

The largest, valued at roughly $23 million, was awarded to CMES, Inc. for constructing a bridge and its approaches along more than one mile of Interstate 75/State Route 401 over Cedar Creek Road in Bartow County. The second-largest, valued at $3 million, involves building a roundabout on State Route 9 at Bannister Road in Dawson and Forsyth counties.

The two projects and a third contract represent more than half (54%) of the total funds awarded.

Two resurfacing projects account for nearly $16 million, or 40%, of the total awards. The largest resurfacing project includes nearly six miles of milling, inlay, and plant mix resurfacing on Interstate 75/State Route 401, from south of Beltline Trail/Old CSX Railroad to south of the bridge over the Interstate 75/State Route 401 ramp to Interstate 85/State Route 403 Northbound in Fulton County.

The second resurfacing project, valued at about $3.37 million, covers more than 5.3 miles on State Route 14 from south of Conley Drive to north of Haynes Street, also in Fulton County.

The remaining 6% of funds were allocated to six safety projects. The largest of these involves nearly 6.3 miles of resurfacing, signing, pavement marking upgrades, and shoulder rehabilitation on New Buckeye Road from Ben Hall Lake Road to the Johnson County line in Laurens County.

The March awards bring the total construction contracts for fiscal 2025, which began July 1, 2024, to $1.7 billion. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, and locally administered projects.
