The New Jersey Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee has advanced legislation that could allow state-licensed sports betting websites, apps, casinos and racetracks to offer Esports wagering opportunities.

Former Atlantic City mayor and Assemblyman Don Guardian’s bill, A-2172, would amend the state’s sports betting law to expand Esports-exclusive wagers. Short for “electronic sports,” Esports are competitive organized video gaming events usually involving multiple players online or in a physical location.

Some of the top games include League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, World of Warcraft and Fortnite.

Under the bill, licensed sports wagering operators could add up to two more individually branded websites with accompanying mobile applications for Esports-only bets. The sites and apps wouldn’t count toward the current limit of three sports betting websites per licensee.
