ATLANTA – Georgia’s net tax collections in December totaled almost $3.34 billion, an increase of 9.6%, or $291.4 million, compared to a year ago when net tax collections approached $3.05 billion for the month.

Year-to-date, net tax revenue collections increased by 1.8%, or $283.1 million.

However, the increase is a bit misleading. The state’s collections were boosted by the state’s motor fuel excise tax collection, suspended for a two-and-a-half-month stretch of fiscal 2024.

Aside from the motor fuel tax changes, revenue collections for the six months ending Dec. 31 totaled nearly $16.4 billion, a decrease of 1% from the same period last year.
