Proposed legislation in Georgia would mandate the Georgia Department of Transportation hold public hearings for local transportation projects with a “significant impact.”
House Bill 76, sponsored by state Rep. Stacey Evans, D-Atlanta, was introduced last week,
The bill defines a local transportation project of significant impact as a public road or transportation project in which GDOT performs any consultation, design, or construction with or on behalf of a county, municipality or private entity. The funding source of the project does not matter, per the legislation.
It does not apply to projects not previously subject to notice requirements relating to changes in local zoning or any other form of local approval.
