Atlanta council to vote on additional security budget for Atlanta Public Safety Training Center

ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council is set to vote Monday on increasing the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center budget.

The proposed center has been a flashpoint for public safety advocates and anti-police agitators. The vote to increase the spending follows ongoing security concerns and numerous protests against the facility, which city officials approved for development in 2021.

On Monday, council members will consider adding $1.7 million to the project’s budget to enhance security measures as the $90 million project progresses.

The Public Safety Training Center is expected to open before the end of the year. The proposed increase in security funding was approved by the Public Safety & Legal Administration Committee on Tuesday, WSB-TV reported.

The full vote by the city council is expected on Monday, Nov. 18.
