Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has extended a suspension of the state’s gas tax.
Kemp initially suspended the gas tax in response to Hurricane Helene. It was set to expire on Wednesday.
However, on Tuesday, Kemp extended a state of emergency for the state. His order extended the gas tax suspension until the state of emergency expires.
The state of emergency for Hurricane Helene was set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday. Kemp’s order was extended for seven additional days.

ATLANTA — The Georgia Supreme Court has unanimously denied a stay of execution for Troy Anthony Davis. Davis, 42, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. Davis was convicted of the 1989 murder of Savannah Police Officer Mark Allen MacPhail. Specifically, the Court denied Davis’ motion for a stay of execution and a request for the court to hear another appeal.
