ATLANTA — The Gateway of Dreams monument in Centennial Olympic Park was dedicated in 1996 and honors the father of the modern Olympic Games.
Pierre de Coubertin founded the modern Olympic Games with the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Raymond Kaskey designed the monument, which features a statue of Coubertin, a step pyramid and the columns of Boaz and Jachin.
Sightseers’ Delight started publishing in June 2016. The site, published by The DeFeo Groupe, collects and curates content about places where historical events large and small happened. The site builds off the legacy of The Travel Trolley, which launched in June 2009. The site aimed to be a virtual version of the trolley tours offered in so many cities.
The Memorial Day holiday weekend is soon approaching. Colonel Mark W. McDonough, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, said the 78-hour holiday patrol period will begin Friday, May 22 at 6 p.m. and end midnight on Memorial Day.
ATLANTA — The scheduled execution of a man convicted of murdering his parents and his 14-year-old sister in Cobb County in 1993 has been postponed a day, various outlets reported. A judge previously ordered that the Wednesday lethal injection of Andrew Grant DeYoung be videotaped. The state sought to overturn the order, but failed, according to published reports. The execution as been put on hold while the state handles the logistics of the videotaping. The
