SMYRNA, Ga — Officials here, have agreed to allow breweries and distilleries in the city.

The Smyrna City Council last month amended the city’s zoning ordinance to add breweries and distilleries. The city now allows such establishments in areas zoned for general commercial, light industrial, central business and mixed-use.

The change could benefit the Atlanta suburb. The Atlanta area is home to many well-regarded breweries and distilleries, including Red Hare Brewing in nearby Marietta.

Until the change, the city did not previously allow breweries or distilleries in the Jonquil City. Approving the measure took several months as city officials worked through the wording of the ordinance.
